Thomas has a busy common law practice with an emphasis on Serious Crime and Regulatory work. His potential has been noted at an early stage and he is often instructed in matters beyond his level of call.
Appearing in the Crown Court and County Court on a daily basis, Thomas routinely conducts high-profile and sensitive cases. He is regularly instructed in cases involving murder, rape, fraud and drugs conspiracies.
Thomas prides himself on his approachable style ensuring clients are at ease and informed of the proceedings they face. His common law background provides a broad and comprehensive platform to deliver sound and reliable advice. In suitable cases, Thomas may able to accept instructions from members of the public on a direct access basis.
Thomas was appointed a Deputy District Judge on the Wales Circuit in July 2024.
Thomas returned to South Wales in 2019 having previously successfully completed the BPTC at Cardiff University with an ‘Outstanding’ grade. He was awarded the Wales and Chester Circuit Achievement Award for the highest overall grade of his cohort.
In his spare time, Thomas enjoys spending time with his young family, playing football and travelling.

His practice covers a full spectrum of offences from serious sexual and violent offending to road traffic offences. Thomas prides himself on his approachable style ensuring clients are at ease and informed of the proceedings they face. He has experience of questioning both young and vulnerable witnesses and has completed the Inns of Court ‘Vulnerable Witnesses Advocacy Training’.
Thomas has a thorough working knowledge of Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 and is regularly instructed in matters concerning confiscation and asset restraint.
Thomas has been appointed as a Grade C Panel Specialist Regulatory Advocate. He has considerable experience of prosecuting a range of regulatory offences on behalf of Companies House, the Health and Safety Executive, HMRC, police forces and local councils. Due to his experience in this area, Thomas has even conducted training on behalf of the Health and Safety Executive assisting specialist inspectors when giving evidence. He is regularly instructed in appeals concerning the revocation of firearms and shotgun licences.
Thomas’ experience is not confined prosecution work. He is regularly instructed to defend in cases involving regulatory offences. More specifically, Thomas has considerable experience in litigation pertaining to the Companies Act 2006. Thomas routinely defends Companies and Directors who have failed to file accounts and rely upon the “reasonable steps” they have taken.
Thomas also has considerable experience in cases involving Food Hygiene Law and Taxi Licencing Law.
Thomas has extensive experience of personal injury, commercial and chancery claims in the County Court acting for both Claimants and Defendants. His experience includes:

Thomas also has experience of the High Court having conducted injunctive proceedings and varying appeals against both interlocutory and final decisions.
Thomas accepts instructions to draft pleadings, advices on quantum and/or liability. He will work to tight timescales where a quick turnaround is required.
- R v SH (2023) – Crown Court trial – successfully defended a father alleged to have raped his daughter.
- Companies House v IM and DN (2023) – successfully defended two directors pursuant to s451(2) Companies Act 2006 (reasonable steps defence).
- R v TC (2021) – Crown Court trial (led Junior) – defendant contesting murder charge on the basis of loss of control and diminished responsibility.
- R v JF, LF and AH (2021) – Crown Court trial – successfully prosecuted multi-handed trial concerning joint supply of Class A drugs.
- JS v St John’s Ambulance (2021) – civil fraud trial – Successfully defended a claim for personal injuries whilst also securing a finding of fundamental dishonesty.
- R v KH and KL (2020) – Crown Court trial (led Junior) – defendant contesting attempt murder charge on the basis of incorrect identification. In depth consideration of cell-site and DNA evidence.
- NH v UK Insurance (2018) – civil fraud trial – Successfully defended a claim for personal injuries whilst also securing a finding of “fundamental dishonesty”.
