Tom has been at 9 Park Place since the successful completion of his pupillage in 2013 and specialises in criminal law. He has a balanced practice, accepting instructions to act for prosecution and defence. Tom is a Grade 3 CPS Pannel advocate and has considerable experience in dealing with matters arising out of confiscation proceedings brought under the Proceeds of crime Act 2002.
Tom is also regularly instructed to prosecute regulatory offences for Local Authorities in matters relating to animal cruelty, unlicensed dog breeding and breaches of housing regulations.
Tom is an experienced Crown Court advocate, appearing regularly for both the prosecution and defence.
Tom is regularly instructed by Local Authorities to prosecute regulatory offences in both the Crown and Magistrates’ Courts.
He has experience in cases involving animal cruelty, unlicensed dog breading, breaches of food hygiene regulations, consumer protection offences and breaches of housing regulations.
Tom has been instructed to represent interested parties at inquests both in the context of the family of the deceased seeking answers as to the cause of death, and in order to safeguard the interests of those who may face criminal prosecution following an inquest.
These are hearings which require a particularly sensitive approach, a facet of the work of which Tom is acutely aware.
Tom has appeared frequently in appeals against the decisions of Local Authorities to refuse or revoke firearms licenses and shotgun certificates, taxi licenses and licenses.
He has also appeared in proceedings before the Traffic Commissioner and in licensing hearings held by Local Authority Licensing Committees.
